Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some answers to your questions about the certification program.

Can I certify wool products that are made of Canadian wool, but were processed or manufactured outside of the country?

Not at this time. A secondary certification will be launched in the coming months for products that meet this criteria.

2

Can I certify wool products that have been blended with other fibres/materials, even if they are all Canadian grown?

Not at this time. Another certification will be launched at a later date for products that meet this criteria. Please note that bedding that utilizes cotton or linen covers is still eligible for this certification if the wool has been completely sourced from Canadian sheep and manufactured in Canada.

3

Can I apply to certify my wool pellets?

Of course! As long as they utilize 100% Canadian wool. You may select the “Other” Product Category on the application form.

4

What benefit is CWC Certification to me & my business?

  • You can use CWC branding on your products and marketing material to promote your business on a national level.

  • We will promote your brand and products through social media platforms and our connections with consumers and retailers.

  • There will be a dedicated entry on our website to promote your products and provide links to your social media channels.

  • You receive a CWC membership and are eligible to vote at the Annual General Meeting with each year’s certification renewal.

5

How long do I retain certification status?

Annual renewals are required to maintain up-to-date information as part of your online profile on our website, and maintain membership in the Canadian Wool Collective. Renewals for 100% Canadian Wool certification will be required in August 2025 if you wish to maintain certified status. (Please note that annual fees for certification may be subject to increase.)

6

Why can I only submit three products or product categories as part of my application?

Our program is about traceability and transparency with the goal to certify producers and businesses. Share with us the three products or product categories that your business has to offer that you are most proud of, or that sets your business apart from others, so that we can highlight and promote them through our national branding. If you would like additional products featured in our promotions after your initial verification, you may use a supplementary form that will be provided by the Certification Committee.

7

What if my product contains wool from more than one source (farm)?

If this product or category contains more than one source (farm) of wool, you may submit the majority source for verification.

8

Can I use CWC branding on my other 100% Canadian wool products if they are not included in my certification application?

Yes, if they meet our criteria for 100% Canadian wool that has been grown and manufactured in Canada. As a grassroots organization, dedicated to increasing the profile of Canadian wool and building a supportive pan-Canadian community to develop a circular Canadian wool economy, we trust our partners to apply the logo properly to their products. If you have any doubts about how to use the logo, please get in touch with us by e-mail at cdnwool@gmail.com

9

How are you using & storing my business’ personal information?

Please refer to our CONFIDENTIALITY POLICY for details. We do not share your information with third parties. Information provided by you is to complete our due diligence for the verification and traceability process and will not leave our Google drive repository.

10

How can I apply the certification logo to my products?

Using the vector files you will have access to once certified, you can integrate the logo into your label, create a sticker to add to an existing label, or create a hanging tag, woven tag, screen printed or sewn label, etc.

Once approved and paid for the certification the files will be sent to the email address used in the application. Learn more about how to use the logo in our licensing agreement here.

11

How much does the certification cost?

Special fee for our first year's launch is $45. A tiered cost structure may be put in place for August 2025 with more details to follow later this year. The tiers would be based on the size/quantity of the applicant.
