Currently there is no data regarding how much wool is grown, processed and marketed in Canada. The only data pertains to the wool that is purchased by the Canadian Cooperative Wool Growers and sold in the international marketplace. In November 2020 a survey was conducted* to collect data about the wool grown, processed and sold by farmers and ranchers across Canada. The survey was web based and distributed through Provincial and National sheep organizations.
There were 147 farms across the country that responded to the sheep and wool survey. There are some clear gaps in the response to the survey, particularly from Eastern Canada. These gaps highlight the need for more concentrated research on this topic. The survey dealt with three main areas: demographics of respondents, the marketing of wool products, and land or farm management.
